| Abstract: | The 1844 Manuscripts are not explicitly amoral and contain vivid accounts of grotesque effects of inequality. The Manuscripts are a popular origin for a Marxian account of justice. I motivate the conclusion that Marx's theory of alienation is a theory of how and why cognitive dissonance occurs in capitalist societies. |
