Abstract: | The present study investigates the thoughts recruited high school black student athletes have regarding college and later life possibilities as it pertains to the models and pathways their significant-others put forth. By examining these individuals and their thoughts about postsecondary education and their futures after, the present study contributes to current literature on black males aspirations as well as role models and youth development by looking specifically at black male student athletes within the context of their homes and their exposure to specific life pathways for black men and their role models. Findings indicate when black student-athletes develop high aspirations and expectations of themselves when exposed to adults with constant high aspirations in academic and occupational achievement. |
