I examine the prevalence of end stage renal disease (ESRD) in a selection of OECD countries as well as the different methods of coping with renal failure. I then examine the difference in cost of these methods as well as the proportion of health care expenditure allocated to each of these methods. I also look at the Iranian system of organ trade discussing limited data of the market for kidneys that exists there. Finally I discuss other potential incentive methods that could be used to increase organ donation, based on incentivizing methods used for blood donation as well as the market for plasma.en_US
