The material presented in this brief synopsis is largely unknown but fundamental to the understanding of the early days of the Muslim presence in the Iberian Peninsula. These are a series of lead seals, about 25 different types, whose legends, through succinct, contribute largely unpublished information. This new evidence indicates that under the undeniable political turbulence, as strongly reflected in the narrative of the chronicles dealing with this period, there are institutions that are working effectively. As we shall see, many of the seals included in this monograph could be closely linked to the Islamic coinage of that moment in what begins to look like a large and complex system of tax collection and redistribution that was established practically from the very beginning by the Umayyad conquestors. –Ibrahim, Tawfiq [2011] Includes 1/14/2016 errata page and additions in English.en_US
