Cold War Frozen in Ice: An Analysis of how World Sporting events can Affect Foreign Politics During the Cold War

Abstract

How sporting events during the Cold War era can affect foreign policy in both the United States and in the Soviet Union. The main ideas I look into are 1972 Summit series in Canada, the 1980 winter Olympics, and the 1980 and 1984 Olympic boycotts. Using those three events I show how those specific events can change those two powerhouse countries.
