Title: Cold War Frozen in Ice: An Analysis of how World Sporting events can Affect Foreign Politics During the Cold War
Authors: Berlin, Ryan
Advisors: Wirzbicki, Peter
Department: History
Class Year: 2018
Abstract: How sporting events during the Cold War era can affect foreign policy in both the United States and in the Soviet Union. The main ideas I look into are 1972 Summit series in Canada, the 1980 winter Olympics, and the 1980 and 1984 Olympic boycotts. Using those three events I show how those specific events can change those two powerhouse countries.
