Project Elephant launched by the Government of India in 1992 aims to conserve elephant populations and their habitat through the establishment of elephant reserves. The current survey was commissioned by the Orissa State Forest Department and was executed by the Asian Nature Conservation Foundation,Bangalore. In this study, the Elephant Reserves in Orissa such as Mahanadi, and Sambalpur (declared), South Orissa, and Baitarni (proposed) were surveyed and the conservation and management challenges are presented.” |
