Abstract: Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) is a painful disease syndrome affecting nearly a third of young, developing horses. In one of the best controlled studies of OCD to date, 1D 1H Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectral data is combined with recent multivariate statistical analysis methods to identify key biomarkers of disease. It was found that fillies and colts have differing metabolic responses to OCD. Characterization of all diseased phenotype classes is required to diagnose, and deliver effective personalized medicine.
